Jon Schoenhorn - Democrat for Zoning Board of Appeals

I am pleased to introduce Jon L. Schoenhorn as a Democratic candidate for the Zoning Board of Appeals.  Jon is a successful civil rights lawyer who wants to bring his skills as a listener and an advocate to ZBA, where he wants to focus on understanding homeowner concerns and making sure that our property values are protected.

Jon grew up and attended high school in Fairfield, Connecticut. He is a 1976 graduate of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio where he received his B.A. in Political Science; and a 1982 graduate (with honors) of the University of Connecticut School of Law.  He has resided in Farmington since 2003 with his wife, Susan Creamer, also a lawyer, and daughter, a college senior.

A former resident of West Hartford, Jon served for several years on that town’s Conservation Commission.  He is a committed conservationist and supporting of 'keeping farms in Farmington.' An avid hiker, he has remained a Connecticut Forest and Park Association manager for a portion of the Metacomet Trail  – now part of the National Park Service’s Scenic New England Trail – for over 25 years.  During all of  that time he has worked with Farmington and state officials to preserve open space and develop multi-use hiking and biking trails for the enjoyment of all Farmington residents.

Jon has represented thousands of individuals and businesses with legal problems. He is has served as an administrative hearing officer for the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities and, in 2006-07, he served on the Connecticut Legislature’s Task Force for Sentencing Reform. Jon is a former president of the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and served for many years as an elected member of the Association's Executive Board.

Jon wants a chance to put his compassion and his concern for the public welfare into practice on ZBA.  I hope you'll join me in giving Jon that opportunity by voting for him on November 5.
