Farmington Land Trust honors Bea Stockwell at Annual Meeting

This year the Farmington Land Trust will honor Bea Stockwell as our Citizen of the Year at their Annual Meeting on Thursday night. Bea Stockwell, longtime advocate and former Board of Director for the Farmington Land Trust, will be honored for her work in support of the Land Trust. The Farmington Land Trust’s Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet will be held on Thursday, April 11th, 5:30 - 8:30 pm in the Club House at the Farmington Club, 162 Town Farm Road in Farmington.   Bea had a pivotal role in helping to preserve and safeguard open space in Farmington. As Chairman of the Farmington Town Council, she was instrumental in putting the Reservoir property to referendum for purchase by the town, with the support of the Land Trust. She worked with Brie Quinby, Judy Staib and Cindy Stanley to secure a large grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving to support new projects proposed by the Land Trust and also helped raise money for the Land Trust’s endowment. Bea has been part of the fabric of Farmington life for many years. She has made generous contributions of her time and talents in many areas, both as Chairman and as a member of various Board of Directors, as well as in supporting roles for the following organizations: the Farmington Valley Trails Council, The Farmington Town Council, Chairman, the Farmington Board of Education, Chairman, the Farmington Ecumenical Housing Corporation and the Stanley Whitman House.   Also honored as Steward of the Year will be Steve Nelson, and a special award will be given to longtime member, land donor, and steward Paul Ingram, as Legacy Steward. The Land Trust is pleased to present Milan Bull, renowned birder, and Senior Director of the Connecticut Audubon Society as the speaker for the evening.     You are in for a surprise when you discover what the Land Trust has accomplished this year, and the energy that has been generated as the strategic planning process unfolds. The theme “Come Soar With Us” was not chosen lightly!   The evening’s events include a Cocktail Hour, Silent Auction, Buffet Dinner, Awards Ceremony and Speaker. Tickets are $50 each. Call or email the Land Trust’s office to make your reservations.   The mission of the Farmington Land Trust is to protect open space in perpetuity through acquisition, stewardship, education and advocacy. Founded in 1971, the Farmington Land Trust, Inc. is a private, non-profit membership organization, tax exempt under section 501 (c) (3) of federal law.   The Land Trust’s support comes from those citizens dedicated to the preservation of open space. Thanks to the generosity of its donors and their wish to protect our open space, the Land Trust now stewards nearly 300 acres of fields, forests, scenic vistas, historic sites and wildlife habitat from development. This land will remain as open space forever, enriching the quality of life for Farmington residents for generations to come.
