According to the P21 website, the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) was founded in 2002 as a coalition bringing together the business community, education leaders, and policymakers to position 21st century readiness at the center of US K-12 education and to kick-start a national conversation on the importance of 21st century skills for all students.  Organizations that were instrumental in founding P21 include Apple, Cisco, Dell, Microsoft, and AOL Time Warner.

In describing the purpose of the award P21 states, “Through the Exemplar Program, P21 seeks to identify, document, promote and celebrate examples of successful 21st century learning. This program will provide educators and communities with a variety of examples to draw from, and offer policymakers and P21 State Partners local examples to help encourage their support.”

Superintendent Greider states, “The P21 recognition is a reflection of Farmington’s outstanding administration, faculty, staff and students.   Through the leadership of our Board of Education, we have established rigorous 21st century goals and a Vision of the Farmington Graduate for all students.  Our goals and vision describe the knowledge and skills required of our students in an ever-changing world community.  We extend our appreciation to P21 for this recognition and we celebrate the dedication of all members of the Farmington school community.”

Farmington engaged in an evaluation process conducted by P21 this fall.  Farmington was selected due to exemplary 21st century learning practices that are improving student learning in classrooms.  A P21 evaluation team visit was conducted in Farmington in October.  The P21 evaluation team met with Superintendent Greider, principals, teachers and students and visited classrooms using the Exemplar
