Hulafrog Farmington Valley's Family Fun Weekend Guide 8/10-8/11

SATURDAY

Face to Face & Free Admission at Wadsworth Atheneum
Take your petite Picasso out for a perfect painting excursion. First, they’ll look at the many ways artists paint faces. Then, they’ll pick an artist who inspires them and make a self-portrait in that style. Plus your kiddos will get to listen to the smooth live jazz by the Jen Allen Trio while they create their masterpiece!

Build & Grow Workshops at Lowe’s - Disney’s Planes
Bring your kids to Lowe's for some high flying fun this weekend! Your aspiring aviator will love building Dusty from Disney's Planes. Best of all they'll get to keep their apron and bring their new buddy home!

Sensory Friendly Film – The Smurfs 2
Sensory friendly showings are designed for families affected by Autism and Sensory Disorders. These special showings help your family enjoy a movie without worrying about whether or not your child can handle the entire show. The program provides a special opportunity for families to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment. The auditoriums dedicated to the program have their lights up, the sound turned down and audience members are invited to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing!

Outdoor Movie - Madagascar 3
Get ready for an animal adventure and enjoy a magical movie under the stars. This weekend the Shoppes at Farmington Valley will feature Madagascar 3. The movie begins at sunset but the fun begins beforehand! Pre-show entertainment will be going on from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. So pack up the blankets and chairs and stop by for some outdoor fun!

SUNDAY

Collinsville Farmers Market
Are you a farmer’s market fan? Then head over to scenic Collinvsville to join their “Garden Party”.  Stock up on fresh fruits and veggies for the fam and take the gang to get some locally grown goodies!

Hill-Stead Farmer’s Market
You don’t want to miss this fantastic Farmer’s Market! The Hillstead Market hosts over 25 CT farmers and vendors each week offering an array of locally grown, fresh, and organic vegetables, fruits, dairy products, free-range eggs, naturally raised beef, veal, pork and lamb, Connecticut-landed seafood, baked goods, flowers, wool and Angora goat yarns, soaps and hand-made Italian ices. As you can see, they’ve got it all! Shop the market, enjoy some music and stay to experience Hill-Stead’s enchanting grounds.

Plein-Air Painters
Looking for something unique to do with the fam after you hit the Hill-Stead Farmer’s Market?  Take them to the nearby Stanley Whitman House to watch some Connecticut based artists as they sketch the beautiful house and grounds.  Tour the grounds, peer over their shoulders and be a part of the creative process!  There will be art supplies if your pint sized Picasso is inspired to take part in some sketching.

It’s a Doll’s World
A Unionville Museum supporter shares her extensive collection of dolls from around the world. Featured are Story Book dolls, Little Women, movie stars (Joan Crawford, Lucille Ball), Snow White, Alice in Wonderland and many more.  The public is invited to an opening reception on Sunday, August 11 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM.   Free popcorn and lemonade, entertainment by the Farmington Valley Band and a chance to win a doll prize!
