A Prescription for Life

Farmington, surrounding communities mourn loss of Dr. Mark A. Robbin.

By John Fitts

Carey Smith Even was in her 20s, newly married, when she fell ill on her birthday. It was Saturday but Dr. Mark A. Robbin not only took time out of his weekend for a checkup but actually wrote a prescription: ‘Take the rest of the week off and tell your new husband to do whatever you say for the rest of your life.”

Many in Simsbury and the surrounding communities were saddened and shocked upon hearing that Robbin had passed away on Aug. 24 at age 60.

This week, several residents shared thoughts with Patch. Along with dozens of notes on his online guestbook, it’s clear he went above and beyond for patients, seeing them on weekends, giving out his home number and treating them as equals.

“He touched so many lives and we will all miss him dearly,” said Tracy Lynn Blumberg.

Elaine Lange said he was always open in his dialogue a treated people as health partners.

“My family will miss his care,” she said.

Anita Miller said Robbin always remembered details from previous visits, even if long periods of time had passed.

"It's so hard to find a doctor that you trust and really cares about his patients," she said.
