College Connects with Farmington High School Musicians

Dr. Cory Ganschow visited Farmington High School on Thursday, May 29th.   Dr. Ganschow worked with the FHS Treble Choir and Chamber Singers in  choral clinics.  She spoke to students about the possibilities available at Western Connecticut University in the music department.  Dr. Ganschow met with the high school music teachers and interested students to answer questions about the music program.  Music students are looking for music making opportunities upon selecting a college even if they are not majoring in music.  Additionally, 2013 FHS Graduate, Julie Luppino who is attending Western Connecticut University as a music major was on hand to answer questions about the program.

College Connections are part of the mission of the Farmington High School Music Department.  Establishing relationships with area colleges and universities assist students in looking ahead to the numerous opportunities beyond high school.  This year the Farmington High School Music Department has performed at Providence College, University of Connecticut and Central Connecticut University.  Visiting college professors from UConn, CCSU and Western Connecticut University have worked with the FHS music students in clinics and collaborations.

Dr. Cory Ganschow is Assistant Professor of Music at Western Connecticut University where she serves as Coordinator of Music Education and teaches classes in secondary music education as well as supervises student teachers and conducts the choirs..  She is extremely active as an adjudicator and clinician for secondary school choral programs and honor choirs on the east coast.  Ganschow holds a Ph.D in Music Education and Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, a Master’s Degree in Choral Music Education from Illinois State University and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Millikin University.
