WHO IS PAT MATTAS?
Welcome to my blog! I am a nurse and private instructor for special needs children/adults. Before establishing my current practice, I worked at Hartford Hospital for ten years: six years in the neonatal intensive care unit and four years in the operating room. I left nursing to homeschool my three children, K-12. In the final four years of our homeschooling experience, I taught for four summers in Wesleyan University's Upward Bound Program (UB). This was a program for low-income, first-generation college bound students. I was hired as the special education instructor for high school students who struggled with reading and writing. I was also commissioned to instruct UB’s international students who came from China, Bangladesh, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Burundi, and Jamaica.
As an entrepreneur, I started my tutoring business on a part-time basis. My practice rapidly grew to include special needs children. With my nursing background, I expanded my practice to include Brain Integration Therapy and Primitive Reflex Remediation.
In June 2013, I became a Certified Provider for The Listening Program by Advanced Brain Technologies in Utah. Among other things, The Listening Program addresses brain processing speed, memory, focus, and cognitive function for children and adults
