Armed Suspect Eludes Police After Robbing Marshalls

Police are still looking for a man who robbed the Marshalls department store at gunpoint early this morning.

Manchester Police are still searching for a suspect who forced his way into the department store on Hale Road early this morning at gun point, took the employees hostage and proceeded to rob the safe.

According to Cpt. Chris Davis of the Manchester Police Department, began shortly after 7 a.m. when a man hid behind a concrete pillar in front of the building until a female employee arrived to open the front door. Davis said that the man then snuck up behind the woman, put a gun to her head, and forced her inside the store.

"Once inside, he corralled the workers in there and brought them into a back room," Davis said.

Davis said the man then stole money from the safe, until another employee arrived, saw the open door, noticed something was amiss in the store, and called the police.

David said the suspect fled on foot before police arrived and, as of noon Thursday afternoon, had thus far evaded capture. The South Windsor Police Department assisted with the search, and police conducted a visible search for the suspect throughout the mall area Thursday morning.

Davis described the suspect as a black male standing about 5'7" tall, wearing a black mask, a blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans who spoke with a Southern drawl. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Manchester Police Department at 860-645-5500.
