Discrimination, Retaliation Complaint Against Town, Avon Police Department

The Avon Town Council will discuss the item in executive session on Thursday.

A former Avon Police Department employee's case alleging racial discrimination and retaliation by department and town officials in connection to her termination last year is still in the mediation stages.

Avon Town Manager Brandon Robertson confirmed that he plans to give the Town Council an update on the complaint former employee Nichole Brown, of Farmington, filed with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO) case in executive session at the council meeting on Thursday.

Brown previously served as Avon Police Chief Mark Rinaldo's secretary and a records aide. She was terminated from the records job around June 6, 2012, according to her complaint.

The council will discuss the "claim pending before CHRO" in executive session,  according to the agenda. Robertson said that the case is still in the mediation phase and that there are no further updates to share publicly at this time.
