Family Displaced After Tree Crashes Through Edgewood House in Avon

The worst of Hurricane Sandy is over, but there are still downed wires and trees in Avon.

A mother and her son had to stay at a neighbor's house Monday night after a large pine tree crashed through the side of their Avon home during Hurricane Sandy.

There were no injuries, according to Avon Fire Chief Michael Trick.

"That house got some severe damage," Trick said.

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department responded to make sure the two occupants of the house were safe and to turn off the power on the structure as a precaution.

The tree is still there at this time because tree removal from houses is out of the fire department's purview, according to Trick.

Firefighters responded to another house simultaneously where a tree fell on the roof. There was minor damage to the second house and information on the location has not been released at this time.

The fire department also responded to calls regarding sparking wires as limbs fell on the power lines and a couple of motor vehicle accidents Monday.
