Farmington Man Charged in Car Break-Ins

Allegedly broke into one car at Rails to Trails parking lot, two in West Hartford.

Police have arrested a Farmington man who allegedly broke into a car in the Rails to Trails parking lot on Brickyard Road and then used a credit card stolen from the car.

Gerard Blejewski, 50, of 883 Plainville Ave., was arrested by West Hartford police on MDC property after he allegedly broke into cars in that town. The two police departments were able to share information on the cases to make an arrest, said Farmington Police Lt, Marshall Porter.

“Usually when it comes to this type of car breaks, they do it in sprees and we stake out the area to get a vehicle description,” Porter said.

Farmington police shared a suspect vehicle description with West Hartford police, who were looking for a similar car in connection with break-ins at Elizabeth Park and another park on Mountain Road, Porter said. They also had a license plate number, which was registered to Blejewski.

Blejewski’s record on the state judicial website shows convictions dating back to 2002, including a one-year sentence for a third-degree larceny charge out of Plainville and most recently a two-year sentence for third-degree burglary out of New Britain in 2009.

He was charged with third-degree burglary, credit card theft, illegal use of a credit card, sixth-degree larceny and receiving goods or services obtained illegally. Blejewski was held on $20,000 bond and scheduled to appear Sept. 13, 2011.

Car break-ins are not really common at the Rails to Trails parking lot, Porter said. About 20 car break-ins occurred over the summer, four of them at Rails to Trails parking lots. But only one was at the Brickyard location. The other three took place at the Collinsville lot.
