Farmington Police to Launch Speed Enforcement Campaign Labor Day Weekend

Police will target speeders in the campaign that runs Sept. 2-16, 2013.

With Labor Day weekend approaching, Farmington police plan to ramp up speed enforcement as a part of a two-week safe driving campaign.

Farmington police officers on patrol will be "targeting speeders with laser and radar," as well as enforcing the use of seatbelts and child safety seats and cracking down on "distracted driving" and "DUI violators," according to press release from the department. The campaign runs from Sept. 2 to 16.

"Speeding is the #1 motor vehicle complaint from Farmington residents, and a top causative factor in motor vehicle accidents," Farmington police said in a statement.

The department hopes that the speed enforcement campaign will "reduce motor vehicle collisions and the injuries suffered from speed-induced violations," the release states.

These three rules are important to keep in mind in driving safely, police said:

  • "Always buckle up."
  • "Obey posted speed limits and traffic laws."
  • "Never drink and drive."
The department wishes everyone "a safe holiday."
