Man Survives Rollover onto Frozen Farmington Reservoir

The car accident happened Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2014.

A driver whose car slid on icy roads and onto a frozen reservoir off Reservoir Road on Saturday survived the crash without injuries, police said.

NBC Connecticut reported that the car rolled over twice in the accident just before 7 a.m. and driver Rich Eakin, 59, was trapped as water started to flow into the car. After cutting the seatbelt, he escaped through the car's sunroof, the television station reported.

Police said that the car did not break entirely through the ice.

The road was closed as emergency responders worked to retrieve the car and the road reopened just after 9 a.m. The car has been removed from the reservoir.

No one was injured in the crash.
