Mom Jailed After Alleged Assault on Police

Employees reportedly called police on intoxicated woman at Marriott pool.

A mother from Mansfield remains in jail after allegedly endangering her young daughter and waging an assault on Farmington police officers who tried to intervene.

Somer Payne, 29, of 19 Mansfield Hollow Road, was by the pool at the Marriott at 15 Farm Springs Road in Farmington on Jan. 29 when police were called to the scene by hotel employees. According to Lt. Marshall Porter, employees said Payne was intoxicated and holding her 4-year-old daughter by the pool. Payne reportedly asked for another bottle of champagne but employees refused and instead called police.

The employees left the pool area, and when they returned with police found Payne in a physical confrontation with her mother, police said.

“She was visibly intoxicated and became combative with officers as they investigated,” Porter said. “As officers attempted to take her into custody she assaulted them.”

According to police, Payne refused to put her daughter down and punched an officer in the head, Porter said. After police handcuffed her and led her, soaking wet and wearing a bathing suit, out of the hotel, she slipped out of the handcuffs and began hitting officers again, police said.

The breach of peace, criminal mischief and interfering charges are misdemeanors but assault on a police officer is a felony offense.

Payne is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 20 and remains in custody on a $10,000 bond.
