A Farmington man was arrested by police twice in 24 hours after he allegedly stole his girlfriend’s car and drove it to Hartford.
Brian Gills, 29, of 44 Cope Farms, Farmington, was first arrested early Monday morning and charged with possession of narcotics after Farmington Police made a routine stop of his car.
He was arrested again Tuesday at 2 a.m. when police found him in Hartford with his girlfriend’s car.
According to Farmington Police Lt. Colin Ryan, Gills’ girlfriend called police to file a complaint saying Gills had taken her car.
Shortly after, police found the car in Hartford.
Ryan said Gills has had many run-ins with Farmington police, likely due to drug addiction.
His arrest record bears that out.
Gills was convicted in 2004 for operating a motor vehicle under the influence (second offense) and of breach of peace in 2006. In May 2010, Gills was charged with possession of narcotics and sentenced to jail time suspended after 3 months, with 3 years probation. He then violated his probation when he was found guilty of possession of narcotics in West Hartford in May 2011.
Gills was charged Tuesday with third-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. He posted $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Nov. 20.
