Police Issue Citations for Selling Tobacco to Minors

Clerks at four locations cited after compliance checks

Police checking whether local stores were selling tobacco to minors found four in violation among 25 stores they visited.

Officers from the Special Projects Unit conducted the unannounced compliance checks Thursday at 25 Farmington locations that sell tobacco products. To do so, officers sent minors, under their supervision and direction, into the stores to try to buy tobacco products.

Police issued infractions to four store clerks in violation of the state law prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors. They also reported the stores to the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Tobacco Compliance Unit, which may levy additional fines or sanctions.
