Two people were arrested and one got away Wednesday night after they reportedly shoplifted designer handbags from the TJ Maxx near Westfarms mall.
According to Farmington Police and a Hartford Courant report, Levar Fulgham and Jasmin Mancini, both 34 of the same address in Milford, took $4,500-worth of handbags from the store, along with a third person who escaped arrest.
Police met them at the door and Fulgham ran to a car that was idling nearby and attempted to steal it. The car, however, was equipped with a locking ignition device that prevents an operator from driving the car if intoxicated. Usually the devices are required after someone has been convicted of drunk driving.
Fulgham was unable to operate the device and police arrested him before he could get away, police said.
But Fulgham refused to cooperate, even after officers used a Taser to subdue him, the Courant reported. Police said he refused to be fingerprinted and gave a false name.
Fulgham was charged with interfering with an officer, attempt to commit third-degree larceny, fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and refusing to be fingerprinted.
He was held on $100,000 surety bond for an Aug. 8 court appearance.
Mancini was charged with fourth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.
She was released on $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear Aug. 13.
