Police Say Rails To Trails Safe To Use After Dog Attacks

Incident didn't take place on trail, police say

Police are investigating the alleged dog attack that occurred near the walking trails Thursday to see just where the incident took place. According to Lt. Marshall Porter, Farmington's police information officer, the area may be in Avon on the Avon Old Farms property.

"It actually didn't happen on Rails To Trails but in a wooded area on Avon Old Farms property," Porter said. Lt. Tyler will be going out with a GPS to determine whether the incident was in Farmington or Avon. If it was in Avon, the department will hand the case over to the Avon Police Department.

Either way, Porter wants to assure the public the trails are safe to use.

"I'm confident we're going to be able to identify this guy and make an arrest," he said.

The incident reportedly involved an Avon Old Farms employee with three large dogs, possibly mastiffs. Police received a complaint that the man's dogs attacked and injured a woman's dog along the section of the  trail that runs between Brickyard Road in Farmington and Thompson Road in Avon. Police also came across another person who had been attacked the week before by three dogs.
