Original Story

Lovely Street (Route 177) has been closed since 10:30 a.m. on Friday due to trees down on utility wires, police confirmed.

While the weather is warm Friday, torrential rain poured down late morning with high wind gusts.  Wind speeds are expected to reach as high as 29 miles per hour this afternoon.

As of 2:30 p.m., the road was still closed between Chevas Road and Country Club Road.

State DOT officials and Connecticut Light & Power are on scene addressing the issue, according to Public Works Highway Foreman Paul Welsh.

As of 2:39 p.m., 310 Avon CL&P customers were without power, according to the power company's outage map

WFSB video footage showed smoke coming from the power lines and the TV station reported that Avon volunteer firefighters responded.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
