Special Olympics Torch Run Comes Through Area

Police, athletes, advocates run for organization in advance of games this weekend.

Area police departments, along with athletes and community organzations, carried the torch today as part of a run, which will culminate in the Special Olympics Connecticut’s 2012 Summer Games this weekend. 

In Farmington, police officers, three members of the fire department, two dispatchers and Town Manager Kathy Eagen made the run, as well as Farmington High School students Emily Quallen and Mike Underwood, traveling from the Bristol town line to West Hartford.

More than 1,500 law enforcement officers from 100 communities will travel with the torch 530 miles over 3 days.

The games take place Friday, June 8, Saturday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10.   Locations of sports venues and schedules include:
