State Police: Grandmother, Two Children Found Dead [Update]

Connecticut State Police have confirmed that Debra Denison is in possession of a .38-caliber gun and left a suicide note after picking up her grandchildren, ages 2 and 6 months, from day care.

Update 11 p.m.: The Amber Alert for a 2-year-old boy and a 6-month-old boy reportedly taken by their grandmother has been cancelled after they were found dead in Preston near a boat ramp.

A 47-year-old Stonington woman took her 2-year-old and 6-month-old grandsons from their day care provider Tuesday, drove to Foxwoods' Lake of Isles golf course and shot and killed the children with a .38-caliber handgun before turning the gun on herself, according to multiple police sources.

At 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Connecticut State Police issued an Amber Alert for the abducted children. Police confirmed for Patch that Debra Denison, the boys' grandmother, picked up the baby and toddler and drove off with the children and the gun in a 2001 White Chrysler Minivan with a CT registration of 445ZAZ.

CSP at Troop E in Montville confirmed that Denison had left a suicide note. State police on the scene had not provided a representative to comment as of 11:15 p.m.

Numerous attempts to reach CSP spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance for additional details were unsuccessful. Check back with Patch for updates.

According to the Connecticut Judiciary website, Denison has a criminal conviction for reckless driving from 2003 but no other Connecticut police record.

What happens to comments that are written before setting up an account here? I wrote a comment, went through the process of setting up my "sign on" info and still can't see my "reply". Where did it go? It is too frustrating to write the whole thing out, lose it and then have to remember what I said to write it again only to discover that it is then posted twice.

Hi Barbara, I'm sorry your comment was lost. Usually Patch saves the comment, then brings you right back to it after you sign in or sign up. My apologies.
