Annual Christmas Tree Collection to Begin January 2

Farmington Public Works Department will be picking up trees.

The Town of Farmington will begin its annual Christmas tree collection on Jan. 2 this year and continuing for about two weeks.

Tree collection for each street will be held around the same day as trash collection but residents should have trees out early to be safe. Collection is done by the Farmington Department of Public Works crew and not by the town's trash collection service, however.

Collection is subject to weather conditions and may be delayed if needed. In the event of a delay collection will resume in the refuse collection area the collection was halted. Residents should make sure trees are visible and not covered with snow after a storm.

Trees are ground and recycled into wood chips. Therefore, any plastic bags, ornaments, lights, or stands should be removed before the tree is placed at the curb.

Those residents who don't have town trash collection service may bring their trees to the Tunxis Mead Compost Area on Tunxis Mead Road on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
