Farmington Board of Education Recount Results are In!

It was a close race for the Board of Education, which underwent a recount Thursday.

The Democrats will maintain the majority they've had on the school board for eight years.

The official results from the Registrars of Voters Office show a tie between Republican Shawn Curtis and incumbent Democrat Bill Beckert at 2,417. That's just three votes more than the lowest vote-getter Republican Mark Blore, who got 2,414.

Incumbent Democrat Ellen Siuta (2,613) got the most votes, followed by William Baker (2,568) and fellow incumbent Democrat Paula O'Brien (2,485).

The recount results mean that the voters have elected Siuta, Baker, O'Brien, Beckert and Curtis will fill the five available seats on the Board of Education.

The unofficial results Tuesday had Siuta in the lead with 2,607, followed by Baker with 2,552, O'Brien with 2,480, Beckert with  2,411, Curtis with 2,400 and Blore with 2,399.

Moderators spent hours from 9 a.m. until late afternoon recounting every single ballot vote for the candidates.

That includes absentee ballots and the 22 Election Day registration ballots.
