Board of Education, TPZ To Meet Tonight

School board to hear plan for Union School facade, budget update; planning and zoning board to hold public hearing on medical buildings, Scott Swamp Road retail building proposal

The Town Plan and Zoning Commission will meet tonight at 7:30  in the Community Room at the Farmington Library. The public is welcome to attend.

A public hearing will be held, during which residents are invited to speak about proposed projects. Public hearing topics as stated in the meeting agenda are:

  • Dunn-Sager Interests O’Meara Farm  LLC for change of zone from R20 to MOC zone for property located at 511 Farmington Ave. and Lot 2 Farmington Avenue (adjacent to 511 Farmington Ave.) and change of zone from PR to MOC zone for property located at 11, 21 and 35 South Road, 399, 499 Farmington Ave. as well as Lot 1 known as 501 Farmington Ave. exclusive of the existing building #501 and adjacent surrounding land as depicted on a map entitled Map of Proposed Zone Change, Proposed “Medical Office Campus” (MOC) Zone, dated December 13, 2010. Continued from February 14, 2011.
  • Dunn-Sager Interests O’Meara Farm, LLC for special permit and site plan approval for medical office building containing 54,540 square feet located on Lot 1 to the rear of 501 Farmington Ave., proposed MOC zone. Continued from February 14, 2011.
  • 343 Associates LLC / Landworks Development LLC for special permit and site plan approval for construction of new retail building (convenience store / wine and liquor shop) located at 343 Scott Swamp Road, B1 zone.

The Board of Education will hold its regular meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Union School. On the agenda is discussion about the school’s decaying façade and a $50,000 plan to fix it, the piloted traffic plan at Farmington High School and an update on the 2011-2012 school budget. The public is welcome to attend the meeting and address the Board of Education.

Included in the agenda is the announcement that several longtime staff members are retiring:

Cynthia Rourke, Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Irving A. Robbins Middle School, is retiring at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. She has been a teacher in Farmington for 12 years.

Robin Pietrick, music teacher at West Woods Upper Elementary School, is retiring November 1, 2011. She has been a teacher in Farmington for 15 years.

Halina Mirecki, science teacher at Irving A. Robbins Middle School, is retiring at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. She has been a teacher in Farmington for 35 years.

Peggy McCarthy, English teacher at Farmington High School, is retiring at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. She has been a teacher in Farmington for 33 years.

In addition, Meagan Lyons, Farmington High School guidance counselor who is on childrearing leave, is resigning immediately to stay at home with her children. She has been a guidance counselor in Farmington for five years.

Finally, Maureen Wondoloski, teacher on childrearing leave, has requested a second year childrearing leave for the 2011-2012 school year.
