Council Honors Mark Fey

Offers proclamation to late councilman's family.

To a standing ovation and tears throughout the chambers, Mike Demicco made a resolution in honor of Mark Fey on behalf of the Town Council.

Fey, an architect, Farmington native and volunteer, served as a Democratic councilor and with numerous town groups. He passed away Feb. 4, 2012 of prostate cancer.

“It was my privilege and good fortune to serve on the Town Council for an all too brief time with Mark Fey,” Demicco said. “Whenever we would face particularly difficult decisions, Mark would always say to me ‘Mike, we have to do the right thing’ — that was the approach he had to all his decisions with the council. Farmington is a better place today because Mark Fey lived here and worked here and served here.”

Fey’s wife, Jill Hammerberg-Fey, with son Nathan, accepted the resolution.

“Mark would be so proud,” she said. “This is very, very special. He loved this town.”

As she received the resolution, the council and crowded audience rose to their feet and applauded.

Town Council Chairman Jeffrey Hogan added his comments as well.

“He was an extremely compassionate person,” Hogan said. “Mark had that public spiritedness. He would just give, give, give, give… he was a really beautiful person. This town has lost a lot and his memory will last a long time.”
