CVS Proposal Before Zoning Commission Tonight

Plan would relocate Post Office Square store to 300 Main St.

The proposal to allow CVS to build a new store at 330 Main St., the location of the Silo restaurant, will again be before the Town Plan and Zoning Commission tonight, at the commission's regular meeting.

A public hearing on the plan to build a 12,900 square foot pharmacy with a drive-through window on the corner of Scott Swamp Road and Main Street was held April 12. At the hearing, several of the property's neighbors told the commission the “big box store” would not fit the town and would cause more traffic problems for the area.

The project’s developers, attorney and an independent consultant reporting on the traffic situation presented the plan, saying every effort would be made to be good neighbors – arranging trash pickup, lighting, landscaping and sidewalks to meet residents’ needs.

The project came before the commission a few years ago and was rejected in 2006 but the company is still interested in relocating to the 330 Main St. site and Mary Santorso, who owns the Silo, is still hoping to sell the property so she can retire.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall in the Council Chambers. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
