Dunn Elected Zoning Chair

Don Doeg named secretary on commission.

The Farmington Town Plan and Zoning Commission elected Philip Dunn chairman tonight, as the group met for the first time with a few new faces.

Republicans added Don Doeg, James Leblanc and Peter Mastrobatista to the commission in the November election. Former chairman James “Skip” Pogson was unseated.

Dunn, an attorney at Jackson O’Keefe in Hartford, has served on the commission for two years. He previously held the position of secretary.

Dunn was nominated by fellow Republican Bill Stanford; the vote was 5-3. The vote was the same when Stanford nominated newcomer Don Doeg for secretary.

Democrats nominated longtime Democratic commissioner Barbara Brenneman for chairman and for secretary. Brenneman previously held the chairmanship when Democrats were in the majority on the council.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dunn welcomed the public and introduced the procedures of the commission. He noted for those with signage applications that Farmington does not control the color of signs.

"With that said, you may hear comments from the commissioners about the colors you have selected and I would urge you to seriously consider the opinions of the commissioners as our comments are offered to help you construct an attractive sign that will serve your purposes and the community as a whole," he said.
