Esty Files for Democratic Primary

Former state representative continues push for Fifth Congressional District seat.

Former State Rep. Elizabeth Esty filed paperwork Thursday to continue her campaign for Connecticut's 5th Congressional District seat by entering her name for the Aug. 14 Democratic primary.

Esty won the support of 20 percent of the delegates at Monday night’s 5th District Democratic convention, exceeding the number of votes required to automatically qualify for a place on the primary ballot. State Speaker of the House Chris Donovan won the nomination Monday with 64 percent of the delegates' support.

“Democratic voters will choose our nominee in this incredibly important election," Esty said in a release. "Again, I’m grateful to the delegates from across the 5th District who came out to support our campaign at Monday night’s convention and who have given me the opportunity to make my case to all Democratic voters."
