Farmington Council Slated to Act on School Safety Recommendations

Meeting agenda includes adding a police officer to Farmington schools, funding safety upgrades and approving administrators' union contract.

The Town Council and Board of Education will hold a joint meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall to discuss and take action on safety and security recommendations in Farmington Public Schools.

According to the meeting agenda, recommendations include adding a second school resource officer to the Farmington school system, which would increase the total number of police positions to 29.

Business on the meeting agenda also includes funding equipment and materials for safety upgrades at the town’s school buildings, increasing the self insurance fund to allow for seven school monitor positions and action on the proposed Farmington Supervisors and Administrators Association contract for 2014-2018.

An executive session is anticipated on the matter, however, the council allotted money for the improvements in the 2013-14 budget. Public comment will be invited at the beginning of the meeting.

A safety and security audit was done early this year to determine how to make the town’s schools safer following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
