Farmington to Be Honored for Clean Energy Commitment

Farmington is one of 35 communities that will be honored at the state Capitol on Wednesday for its clean energy efforts.

Through the state's Clean Energy Communities program, 78 municipalities, including Avon, have signed a pledge "to reduce municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent by 2018, and to voluntarily purchase 20 percent of its municipal electric needs from renewable sources by 2018."

Communities receive points based on residents' and business' participation in "energy-saving" and "renewable" energy initiatives that help qualify them for rewards like Bright Idea Grants.
