Malloy Wants Federal Action on Gun Control in Wake of Newtown Shootings

Speaking at a press conference Monday, the governor also said he had to break the news Friday to some grieving Newtown parents that their children were dead.

As families of some of the 26 people killed in the Newtown shooting rampage begin burying their loved ones, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the federal government needs to get serious about enacting stricter gun laws.

Speaking at a press conference in Hartford on Monday, Malloy also said that while he was in the Sandy Hook Firehouse last week with some of the parents of the 20 children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School he realized that some of them had waited hours for word of their loved ones and did not know that their children were gone. He took on the grim task of ending their uncertainty, he said.

“I made the decision that … to have that go on any longer was wrong,” Malloy said, as he fought back tears.

He also said told reporters that he wants federal lawmakers to get serious on gun control legislation.

“Do I think Washington D.C. needs to get its act together and enact stricter gun control laws at the federal level? You bet I do.”

Malloy has called for a moment of silence this Friday and for churches to toll their bells 26 times in honor of the shooting victims.

As parents we cannot depend on police or politicians to keep our children safe. Why are we talking about the same old argument as we bury our children. Our world is far more dangerous than years past. We as parents need to take look at ourselves and spend the time to raise our children and know them instead of shipping them off to day care providers so we can pay our bills. Anyone who would hurt an innoccent child should be hung on the town green. Now thats getting back to basics. Maybe thats were we should be. David Mairson, CT Father

Malloy is typical. He goes after what looks like is the problem (Guns) without really thinking of the biger problem (mental illness). All the mass shootings have been from mentally ill people. The largest school killing in the U.S. was in 1928. The Bath School disaster. The killer used gasoline and bombs to kill as many kids as possible(58 kids in total). But you will never see that mentioned on the liberal media since they want to drink obama's kool-aid and promote banning guns.

I believe the Farmington Patch has many merits, but after reading many posts in the last few weeks I think changes need to be made.#1 real names need to be attached to each post #2 If it is the Farmington Patch let's keep the comments from Farmington residents. Some of the comments made are bizarre, example: the people who continually refer to anybody who disagrees with their extreme right wing thoughts as socialists etc. I would appreciate comments from staff on this.

I think you want to suppress other point of views. None of what you suggested will keep people from saying their point of view. Also this article is not only on the Farmington patch. This article and many others cross link to other towns.
