Mike Clark Accepts Chamber of Commerce Award on Behalf of Town

Citizenship of the Year Award focuses on heroic efforts in town response after October snowstorm.

Mike Clark accepted the Citizenship of the Year award on behalf of the Town of Farmington from the Farmington Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Dinner last evening.  The award, presented by Bill Neagus, Principal of Strategic Persuasion Group, LLC, focused on the heroic efforts of the Town in aid to its citizens in the wake of October’s Storm Alfred.

Neagus recounted how the storm left nearly 100 percent of Farmington residents without power – many for over 10 days.  During that time, all town services worked around the clock to meet the needs of residents.  Over 2,000 residents were serviced at the Farmington High School shelter, while police and fire departments responded to calls for assistance that were two to three times higher than normal.

At the helm of these extraordinary efforts was Mike Clark, then Town Council Chairman, who barely slept or went home during the crisis.  His constant presence and steady leadership fostered the focused, calm cooperation that led to effective communication, regular information dissemination and first-rate responsiveness.

In his remarks, Mike credited not only the tireless work of town employees, but also the inspiring efforts of resident volunteers.

“I have never been more proud,” said Clark, “to be a resident of the Town of Farmington.  The courageous, selfless spirit of our employees and citizens turned a disastrous situation into one of hope.  We came together as a community, with everyone from children to seniors pitching in as fully as they were able in dozens of ways, big and small.  They all made a difference, and they all exemplified the great character of our superbly special town.”

Submitted by Mike Clark for Congress.
