Mike Demicco Qualifies for Citizens Election Fund Grant

Democratic Candidate for 21st District State Representative Raises Over $5,000 from Over 150 Residents to Qualify

Mike Demicco, the Democratic candidate for the 21st District State Representative seat, announced today that his election committee has qualified for a grant of $26,850 from the Citizens Election Fund.  Funded primarily by the sale of abandoned property in the State’s custody, the Citizens Election Fund allows individuals to qualify for campaign funding, providing they establish their viability as a candidate.  Demicco, a four-term member of the Farmington Town Council, qualified by collecting over $5,000 in contributions from over 150 Farmington residents.

Demicco, a long-time advocate of ethics reform on the Town Council, appreciates the importance of this Fund.  "I firmly believe in the goal of this program," he said, upon learning of the grant, "which is to minimize the influence of lobbyists, special interests, and 'big money' in the electoral process.  It allows me to concentrate my efforts on discussing issues with the voters -- which I have been doing since early June by going door-to-door -- rather than raising campaign money."

Demicco's tenure on the Town Council has exposed him to a broad array of issues important to Farmington.  He has served on the Elderly Tax Relief Subcommittee, the Ethics Ordinance Subcommittee, and the Legal Services Subcommittee, and he is currently the Town Council’s liaison to the Water Pollution Control Authority.  He is also a member of the UCONN Health Center Communication Committee, the UCONN Health Center Department of Correction Committee, and the Stephen Flis Scholarship Committee.

Demicco remains eager to hear from residents as he continues his door-to-door campaigning.  "I have been gratified by the positive responses I have received," he said, "and the support shown to me by so many people."
