Murphy: Speed, Capacity of Semi-Automatic Weapons 'Unbelievable' [Video]

Sen. Chris Murphy watches a state police demonstration of the power of military-style assault rifles in Simsbury.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D—Conn.) paid a visit to the Connecticut State Police Gun Range in Simsbury Friday for a demonstration on military-style assault rifles.

State police Sergeant Shawn Corey demonstrated the differences between two military-style assault rifles for Murphy as he asked questions specifically about two versions of a similar weapon—one that is banned in the state of Conn. and one that is currently legal.

What about every other gun that shoots that fast? Are they next? Listen, buying guns after 1993 made it harder than buying guns after 1986, which made it harder than buying guns after 1968, which made it harder than buying after 1934, all dates of major new gun law restrictions. For instance, before 1993, there were no NICS background checks. Before 1968, anybody could bye a gun through the mail and have it sent directly to their house. Prior to 1934, anybody could by a machine gun and a silencer right off the shelf. Since they were invented over 100 years ago, we as U.S. citizens have always been able to bye semi-automatic firearms with so-called high capacity magazines and since 1963 in particular, the AR-15. Look at high school yearbooks prior to about the 1970’s. Schools regularly had rifle teams, and students went to school with guns strapped to their backs. So what has changed and why the sudden apparent increase in mass shootings? It can’t be that guns are more capable than guns in the past because despite what they might look like, they’re not. It can’t be because we have magazines of over ten rounds because we’ve always had them. There must be other factors underlying the root causes of these tragedies, but they’re being drowned out by the emotional and demonizing vitriol against guns and gun owners. Senator, why don't you put your efforts at finding real solutions to the problem, and here's a hint, it's not the guns.

Chris Murphy, Marxist Progressive who wants gove to have more power and control over the useful idiots. How's the crime in Chicago and DC where they have the strictest gun laws Chris? Keeping guns out of law abiding criminals and in the hands of the criminals. You are a disgrace to this nation!

What does the largest gun safety organisation in the country have to do with this? The laws that this idiot put in place didn't help those kids did they? Keep your head buried in the sand because obviously you need a comforrt blanket.

How stupid is our senator? All semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, pistols, and revolvers fire every time you pull the trigger. The speed record for handguns was set with a revolver. REMEMBER, the democrat party is dedicated to banning ALL firearms, period. If you own a gun or know safe, law abiding citizens who do, DEMAND that these inrepresentative representatives CEASE and DESIST. I believe the oath says Support AND DEFEND the Constitution.
