Public Hearing Tonight on Proposed Farmington Budget

Town Council's proposal includes a 1.87 percent increase over last year.

The Farmington Town Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed town budget for fiscal year 2013-14 tonight at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall.

The proposed operating budget includes a 1.87 percent increase over current year’s spending – 1.96 percent on the education side and 2.51 percent on the town side. A 9.36 percent decrease in debt service and increase in revenues is also included.

The proposed mill rate change is 2.17 mills after the town real estate revaluation and the proposed budget increase. Because the average residential assessment decreased, some residents’ tax bills will also decrease.

Later in the meeting, the council is expected to formally adopt its proposed operating budget.

Multiple presentations and proclamations are on the agenda for tonight, including Earth Day, Farmington High School Boys Wrestling Team, Al Bell, citizen recognition awards from the Town of Farmington Fire Department and a check presentation to the Town of Farmington Fire Department for the Live Fire Training Facility on Round Hill Road.

The public is welcome to address the council on the budget during the public hearing and on any topic during the public comment period.
