School Calendar for 2013-14 Approved

Start date for next year will be August 26.

The Farmington Board of Education approved the 2013-14 school calendar Monday night, with a slight change from last year as well as the implementation of the new policy which moves the start of school before Labor Day.

The school year will start on Aug. 26 next year.

In addition, the superintendent recommended a professional development day, normally held in March, be Sept. 30 instead. The change will allow teachers to get more professional development at the beginning of the year, as new standards are being implemented and a new teacher evaluation system is being put in place.

"That will give us a professional development day in September and one in November. We talked about when is the best time and with the new teacher evaluation system coming, we felt frontloading is goign to be the best policy for next year," Superintendent Kathleen Greider said.

A pdf of the calendar is attached.
