Spring Cleaning for Your House and the Town of Farmington

Separate Saturdays give residents a chance to do some spring cleaning at home and around town.

Farmington has dubbed Saturday, April 27 as "Clean up your house day." It's a chance to get that Spring cleaning out of the way and actually have somewhere to take all of the stuff you want to throw out.

On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be electronics recycling in the Town Hall parking lot from Green Monster, household hazardous waste drop off in the Farmington High School parking lot and personal document shredding by Cintas in the parking lot of the Farmington Library.

Visit www.GreenMonsterEcycling.com for information on electronics recycling and www.themdc.com/haz13infopack.pdf for information on acceptable hazardous waste. Cintas can be reached at 203-272-2036 for more information.

The event is sponsored by the Farmington Conservation & Inland Wetlands Commission, Farmington Booster Club and Farmington Green Efforts Committee.

The following Saturday, May 4 is "Clean up the town day." From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents are invited to join together in sprucing up the town for spring while engaging in friendly competition.

Teams and individuals simply target areas around the town to pick up trash — it could be your neighborhood or a public spot where you've seen lots of litter — then return the trash to a check-in site.

Trash bags, gloves and refreshments are available at the check-in sites:

Farmington Firehouse – 76 Main St. Farmington
Farmington Main Library – 6 Monteith Dr. Farmington
Tunxis Hose Firehouse – 11 School St. Unionville
Tunxis Mead Playing Fields – Tunxis Mead Road Farmington

Once there, the trash will be weighed and entered into the "Heaviest Haul Trash Competition." Winners will be recognized in the categories of businesses, families, school groups and clubs. Last year, the Farmington Democratic Party, Starbucks, and residents Peter Morse and Mark Ratliff collected record amounts of trash.

Pizza courtesy of Flatbread Pizza will be served at all locations at noon.

The May 4 event is sponsored by Farmington Green Efforts Committee.
