Training to Alter DMVs' Hours This Month

Staffers will be receiving training for new "SelectCT" ID program that will offer federally verified identification status.

Caution: Congestion ahead.

Truncated hours of operation because of employee training on a new identification-verification system will likely cause longer lines at some Department of Motor Vehicles offices across the state.

Throughout the month of September, DMV workers will be getting trained on the SelectCT ID program, which offers the option of a verified identity for anyone renewing either a driver’s license or a DMV-issued identification card, according to a news release. Department clerks will ask customers renewing these IDs whether they want to show original identity documents (birth certificate, social security card, permanent resident card, etc.) to establish a record of their identity with the DMV and for federal identification purposes.

New applicants for driver’s licenses and ID cards currently have to provide original identity documents before they are issued IDs. Those currently holding such identification cards do not have to participate and can opt out of the identity verification.
