Update From the Town: Nov. 9 - Leaf and Debris Removal

Curbside debris pickup to begin Monday.

Restoration and Recovery Efforts
As of this afternoon the Town of Farmington has approximately 50 (0.4%) residents without power. If your neighborhood has power and you still do not this is considered a single service outage. You must report this outage to CL&P. There are CL&P customer service representatives located in the Town Hall from 8:00 am-6:30 pm daily to help you. They can be reached at 860-675-2317.

Debris Removal
The Town Council held an emergency meeting this morning to consider and award a contract for storm debris removal. The successful bidder was Michael’s Tree and Loader Service. This contract was awarded to remove storm debris from the Towns right of way. The contractor will also remove dangerous trees and limbs from the Towns rights of way.

Pick up of debris will begin on Monday November 14, 2011. Residents must bring their debris curbside for pickup. Like the annual leaf collection program, residents are responsible for tree work and debris removal on their property and must place all debris curbside for removal by the Town contractor. Residents should not stack debris such that it blocks access to fire hydrants, mailboxes, utility boxes, utility poles, or to block visibility at intersections.

The Contractor has a limited time frame to pick up the Town’s debris. The Town will continue to update residents on the progress of debris removal, but an exact schedule by neighborhood will not be available. Residents are strongly encouraged to work as quickly as possible to place all debris curbside. For safety reasons as well as the potential for winter weather, we must remove this debris as quickly as possible.

Residents can also bring their storm related debris to the Town’s compost station. The Town’s compost station located at Tunxis Mead Park off of Red Oak Hill Road will be open extended hours from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. six days a week (closed Sunday) until further notice.

Leaf Collection
The Town will conduct a limited leaf collection effort this year. There will only be one collection pass completed by Town forces. Residents are asked to rake leaves to the curbside, but away from any storm debris. Information on neighborhood schedules for collection will be made available soon.

More information will be provided when it is available.
