What Should You Do with Your Christmas Trees?

Farmington's Christmas tree pick-up schedule.

The holiday season is winding down. Your beautiful Christmas tree is dried out and could be a borderline fire hazard. So, what should you do with it?

Residents who participate in the town's trash collection service can leave their trees near the curb starting Jan. 6 and the tree collection will run for two weeks. The Highway and Grounds Division of Public will pick up the trees "around the same day as your trash collection," according to a press release.

"Winter weather may delay the pickup and residents should make sure their trees are unburied and visible after a storm," town officials said in a press release. "All plastic bags, stands, lights, tinsel, ornaments, etc. must be removed from the trees so they can be chipped safely with no contaminants."

If you don't have trash collection, you can bring your tree to the Tunxis Mead compost area.
