National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Sept. 29th

I would like to announce the return of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day to the University of Connecticut Health Center on Saturday, September 29th.

I would like to announce the return of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day to the University of Connecticut Health Center on Saturday, September 29th.

This event is a combined effort from the Drug Enforcement Administration and our local enforcement and public health officials to collect and remove all un-wanted and expired prescription drugs from the community.

From the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 29th, UConn staff members and students will be collecting medications at the health center’s Medical Arts and Research Building.

I would like to encourage everyone to take a few minutes and look around their homes for any expired or unused medications. This event is a great opportunity to help prevent any potentially dangerous substance from getting into the wrong hands.

Most medications, except needles, medical waste or thermometers, will be accepted. If possible, the UConn Health Center asks that medications are brought in their original containers. All personal information on the prescription label should also be removed or crossed out with permanent marker.

During last year’s collection, the UConn Health Center collected an astonishing 279 medications amounting to 5,700 capsules, 3.75 liters of liquid narcotics, 9.5 pounds of inhalers and 224 pounds of other medications. With your help, we can have the same success this year.

For more information about the collection at the UConn Health Center, please call 860-679-7627. To find a collection site near you, please click here.
