Rep. Bill Wadsworth named ‘Legislative Champion’ by Connecticut League of Conservation Voters

The bipartisan Connecticut League of Conservation Voters recently recognized State Representative Bill Wadsworth as a Legislative Champion for the 2012 Legislative Session.

The bipartisan Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) recently recognized State Representative Bill Wadsworth (R- Farmington) as a Legislative Champion for the 2012 Legislative Session. Only six other state representatives and four state senators have been awarded has Legislative Champions.  

The CTLCV also recognized Wadsworth for his efforts at preserving the environment with a perfect 100% score for votes supporting green initiatives in Connecticut. The scorecard grades lawmakers on their votes on up to 20 different bills related to the environment. 

“In order to restore the pristine natural resources of the State ofConnecticut, it is necessary to pass legislation that corrects the deficiencies of the past and plan for protection in the future,” said Wadsworth. “The environmental legislation we passed this year will help us make sure the innate beauty of Connecticut’s wildlife will remain preserved for generations to come. I thank the League of Conservation Voters for their special recognition.”

During the 2012 legislative session, Rep. Wadsworth supported bills that will protect open space; reduce harmful levels of phosphorus in Connecticut’s rivers, lakes, and streams; provide better, timely information to address sewage spills; and modernize the state’s coastal zone management laws in a way that balances environmental concerns with the rights of property owners.

At the start of the 2012 Legislative Session, Rep. Wadsworth proposed legislation that created a warning system to alert the public of any potentially dangerous sewage spills or overflows into adjacent waterways.

Rep. Wadsworth also fought successfully to kill legislation that would have weakened legal protections for municipalities that allow free public access to open space. During the 2011 session,Wadsworth had played an active role in passing legislation to obtain those protections.
