Back to School: What's New at Farmington Public Schools?

The Farmington Board of Education is scheduled to meet Monday to discuss the end-of-the-fiscal-year financial report, updates on the new school year, school security and many other items.

With schools back in session, a lot is happening at the start of the 2013-14 school year.

If you want an update on the latest school happenings, there is a Board of Education meeting scheduled for Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at Farmington High School.

Superintendent Kathy Grieder is slated to discuss items like Farmington's teacher of the year, the town's "green efforts," maintenance and building repairs done at the schools over the summer and "standards-based curriculum work," according to the agenda.

Schools across the state are structuring their curriculums to adhere to the new common core standards.

The board will also talk about "budget impact" and the financial report for 2012-13, as listed on the agenda.

Toward the end of the meeting, the school board is scheduled to go into executive session to discuss a student issue, negotiations and school security. The Farmington Public Schools administration, as advised by law enforcement, will not be releasing the specifics on security upgrades in the schools.
