Cafeteria Services Vote Expected Tonight

Special meeting at 7 p.m. to consider proposals from outside vendors.

The Farmington Board of Education will meet tonight to decide whether to hire an outside vendor to operate the district's cafeterias. A vote on the issue is expected.

A June 18, at which several women petitioned the board to spare their jobs, describing years spent in the schools, serving and caring for the district's children.

But most employees say they know a contracted outside vendor would likely offer to hire them back - the uncertain wages and benefits are a concern.

School officials say their employees are a top priority and that incorporating a plan for existing employees was a requirement of the proposals.

The board is considering two companies - a third was eliminated - and both gave presentations at the June 18 meeting.

The district put out a for its food services because the department has lost $110,000 over the past two years, according to Business Administrator Michael Ryan.

No further information from the district was available.

The meeting will be held in the library, beginning at 7 p.m.
