CAPT, CMT Scores Are In For Farmington Schools

The town well exceeds the state averages on both tests.

Standardized test scores are in for Farmington, and results are mixed, with most 2013 scores within a few points of those of 2012. Scores still far exceed state averages and are slightly higher than most of its neighbors.

The Connecticut Department of Education released the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) and the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) scores for all Connecticut school districts on Tuesday.

On the CAPT test, which is given to 10th graders, Farmington students improved a few points in reading and writing and stayed the same in math and science. More than 77 percent of students reached goal in math, 72 percent in science, 69 percent in reading and 83 percent in writing.

However, the CMTs were a different story, with more scores staying the same or showing a slight decline. Math scores across grades saw a decline of a few points, except in grade seven, which also saw an increase in writing.

The CMTs are administered to all students from grade three to grade eight. Students are tested in math, reading and writing, and in middle school, they are tested in science as well.
