Walking Tour to Tell Amistad Story

The Farmington Continuing Education program, in cooperation with the Farmington Historical Society, will present a walking tour on May 19, visiting sites in the town with connections to the Amistad story.

The program will start with an interactive talk by Kim A. Silva, the society's historical interpreter, that will examine the events in the 1830s and 1840s that brought three dozen Africans from the Spanish slave ship Amistad to Farmington. Docents then will lead a walk from historic First Church of Christ on Main Street, past sites where the Africans were housed and schooled, to Riverside Cemetery, where one of the former captives is buried.

The program runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and costs $15. For details and to register, visit the Farmington Continuing Education web site, www.fpsct.org, or phone (860) 404-0290.
