Farmington Freshman Crew Coach Dismissed After Drug Arrest

Police say they have no evidence coach, 18 years old, was selling near or to crew team.

Freshman crew team coach Evan Godlewski was removed from his position last week following his arrest on charges of selling marijuana. Godlewski was arrested by warrant at Tunxis Mead, where the crew team practices, on Tuesday afternoon. Police said he was in possession of marijuana and related paraphernalia at the time of the arrest.

According to Farmington Police Lt. William Tyler, Godlewski, 18 years old and a 2010 graduate of Farmington High School, had been the subject of a month-long investigation by the Narcotics Response Team. Details surrounding the investigation have not been released, but Tyler said the Farmington police have no evidence that Godlewski was selling marijuana at Tunxis Mead.

Farmington High School Principal Timothy Breslin sent a letter to parents explaining the situation and saying there was no evidence the young coach endangered the athletes.

“He had been a member of the crew team during each of his four years at Farmington High School. His coaches, who knew him well during his years as a student athlete, believed that his presence would have enhanced the athletic skills of the team members,” Breslin said in the letter.

Breslin declined to comment and school staff were advised not to discuss the situation.
