Farmington Girls Basketball Advances to Class L Finals

Dream run continues with 61-59 victory over RHAM Saturday in Hartford.

Just before the state Class L tournament started, Farmington High girls basketball coach Russ Crist said that his team was among a dozen or so that had a legitimate chance to make a run for the title.

The Indians, the tenth seed, made good on Crist’s prediction, advancing to the championship game with a 61-52 victory over No. 6 RHAM in the semifinals at Bulkeley High in Hartford on March 9.

It’s just the second appearance in the title game for the Indians, who lost the 2006 final to Bulkeley 43-42 in overtime in 2006.

Farmington, the CCC West regular season champions, will face No. 1 Bacon Academy, which defeated No. 12 Tolland - the 2012 Class L runner up - 33-27 in the other semifinal game on Saturday.

The championship game will be played at Mohegan Sun Arena on March 15 or 16.

With the semifinal win, Farmington avenged a tough 46-45 loss to RHAM in the first game of the season on Dec. 15.
