Farmington Girls Crew Third Boat Places Sixth at New England Regatta

Coach Adam Askham praises the team on a year of firsts.

After a team state championship win for Farmington High School, the girls third varsity boat qualified for the grand finals and placed sixth at the New England championship toward the end of May.

The first and second varsity boat were in challenging heats at the regatta and didn't advance, head girls rowing coach Adam Askham said.

Farmington is graduating seven seniors – Lynette McNamara, Caroline Meigs, Julia Surkis, Shannon Kirkness, Alessandra Stoj, Montana Mellon and Conor Godlewski.

"This team put in a lot of hard work to change the way they row," Askham said. "They worked hard every practice to get better. Our goal for next year is to the same if not better then this season."

He called the season a year of firsts, from winning "the Hayley Petit Cup against Miss Porters for the first time" to the program's "first complete sweep on the varsity girls events" and the first state championship gold medal recorded in program history for a first varsity boat.

Askham also lauded the girls and boys team's point trophy victory at the public schools state championship.
