Farmington High School to Get a $1.1 million Synthetic Turf Football Field

Field should last 10 years, less injuries cited

Pam Sucato says she is glad her children will no longer have to slip and slide on the Farmington High School football field during rain storms, the Hartford Courant reports.

Sucato, who has two children on the football field, is happy the town has decided to install synthetic turf on its field in time for the fall football season, the Courant reports.

The entire cost is $1.1 million, but a $500,000 state grant helped reduce the price tag for local taxpayers, the Courant reports.

Friends of the Farmington Field are still fundraising toward its goal of $58,000. Anyone interested in donating can send checks payable to “The Friends of the Farmington Field" to P.O. Box 30, Farmington, CT 06034.

Efforts to bring a synthetic turf football field began in earnest in June, 2013, according to a Patch article. In that article reasons cited for going to a synthetic turf field include the fact it could last up to 10 years and that would mean low maintenance costs. Also some people said turf fields yield less injuries.
